Discover what we’ve been up to lately, in the spring issue of Mastek News
Most of us are both excited and concerned about new technologies - from machine learning to RPA and AI, uncertainty and fear of a loss of livelihood permeate. These disruptive technologies change how we live and conduct business, creating new industries and different jobs.
To capitalise on them, upscale and to achieve better outcomes, enterprises must incorporate business agility. Yet, all too often transformation is shallow and not accompanied by the business change that is necessary to complement its effectiveness.
In the technology world, enterprises must use DevOps technologies and practices, working backwards to incorporate API-driven processes that offer complete control over front-end and back-end processes.
If you are keen to make business agility, business as usual at your organisation, we have some useful webinars on topic driven by IndigoBlue, our consulting arm.
To further attest to our transformation expertise, I am happy to share that a few months ago, one of our customers, Specsavers won the European Software Testing Awards in the Best Test Automation Project – Functional category. We are proud to be Specsavers testing partner, assuring quality of their transformation initiatives. Find out more about our testing expertise and our work with Specsavers in this issue.
The Graduate Development Programme that we launched last year to develop local UK talent is satisfactorily moving to the next phase. The first intake of young Mastekeers is being deployed to support customer projects.
On the back of this success, we intend to treble the number of graduates we take in next year.

Specsavers Testing Focus
When Specsavers put testing in focus
For a business that’s focussed on vision, Specsavers has embodied it in its quality assurance activities.
This eye care and hearing aid provider has raised the bar – moving testing from a mere tick-box exercise with little perceived business value, to a strategic enabler of quality and innovation. And how has this change transformed the company?
It's created balance between quality and productivity
To start with, the investment in quality provided Specsavers with measurable returns.
For instance, testing certain apps now takes just 5 minutes to run instead of one hour that it did in the past.
No more a standalone activity, but a centre of excellence
The company has widened its focus to create a centre of excellence function with wider capabilities and service offerings from a testing perspective.
Watch how Specsavers’ partnership with Mastek helped advance testing across its service offering.
By working with Mastek as a flexible partner, we’ve been able to reduce our monthly financials by 10 percent

Read our whitepaper to know more about the advantages of early performance testing.
Wouldn't it be great if you had visibility of performance issues occurring earlier on in development and fixed them as they occur?Even before the application is developed and integrated.
Pave the way for performance testing
You can, when you move away from traditional performance testing methods and test early on in the software life cycle.
By testing early on, you reduce the overall time, effort and cost required to test.

Have you charted your route to project success?
As a business, you may have adopted some, if not all of the technologies and practices that form part of a DevOps function.
Maybe you are contemplating a modest improvement to your software delivery pipeline. Or perhaps, a major DevOps transformation to benefit from improved business responsiveness as a result of shorter release cycles.
Your status quo is important
Have you assessed where you stand on your DevOps journey? How far you’ve already progressed and the challenges that you face?
Without this perspective, you may inadvertently be sabotaging your progress due to unacknowledged technical debt and poor prioritisation.
Try our DevOps Pathfinder
Created by IndigoBlue, our consulting arm, the DevOps Pathfinder can guide you in the right direction. It charts the routes that organisations most commonly take, from traditional software management to DevOps best practice and performance.
Watch the DevOps Pathfinder overview to plan your next steps towards DevOps maturity.
Mastek Charity Hackathons
Contributing to Social Causes
Ever heard about how, ‘One machine can do the work of 50 ordinary men, but no machine can do the work of one extraordinary man.’ Exactly what Mastekeers do through our charity hackathons.
Transforming lives through tech
Since its inception in India as Project Deep Blue in 2015, Mastek has used technology to transform lives – working with the engineering workforce of tomorrow to support social causes that contribute to a better world - creating apps to track school attendance in learning centres, identifying malnourished infants and profiling plastic waste.
Partnering with Morrisons and CLIC Sargent
While we’ve made enormous progress in India, we’ve also begun to make a difference in the UK. Only recently, we collaborated with Morrisons, the supermarket chain and CLIC Sargent, the charity helping young lives impacted by cancer to host an 8-week charity hackathon wherein we worked with regional universities on three problem statements that included:
Esperance Barreto, Content Manager, Mastek
- Creating a platform for cancer patients to connect
- Delivering a discovery platform
- Anonymous approaches
Students, set on a social cause
The teams presented a range of solutions with CLIC Sargent’s user-group in mind - including geolocation-based event discovery, utilisation of spaces to work and sharing creative outlets in a safe environment.
The sheer determination and competence of the Computer Science students at Sheffield Hallam University won them all the three top prizes. It was a rewarding experience for all involved, spurring on the desire to continue supporting social causes.
